What is a yoni steam?

Yoni steams are a health practice which a woman allows herbal steam to gently enter her vagina. When shouldn't you do a yoni steam?

DO NOT steam if you are:

  • Ovulating, if trying to conceive
  • Pregnant or if you think you may be pregnant
  • If you have an IUD
  • Have an active internal infection (cervical, uterine or ovarian inflammation) with a fever
  • Have any open sores or blisters present
  • Menstruating

 

How to do a yoni steam

It seems like a lot of setting up the first time you do it! After you've done it a few times, you will see how easy it is to set up.

 

  • Set up a clean area. Place your steam bowl where you'll have room and be comfortable.

 

  • Start a pot of 4-8 cups of water to boil with a lid. Once you have a rolling boil, turn the heat down, add herbs to the water and simmer for 5–7 minutes. Turn off heat and let steep.

 

  • Once you are ready to sit and steam, transfer the herb to the bowl. Sit down, get comfortable, get your blanket or towel around you, close the steam up so that no cold air comes in.

 

  • Steam for about 15–30 minutes.

 

What to expect after steaming

 

In the days following, there are several things you may experience; changes in your cycle, lighter period, the release of dark blood clots. You might notice changes right away or more subtly.
